"NEW YEAR, NEW US"

"THE BEST IS YET TO COME"

When the new year comes around it seems like the perfect time for self-improvement.Even though I’ve always failed my New Year’s resolutions, every year I promise myself that this time will be different. I’ve tried everything from being a vegetarian to starting my homework earlier to giving up Facebook. Each time after about a month (at most) I’ve given up. Why do I even bother? I don’t feel that bad when I break my resolutions but sometimes I wish I could do better.

I know that it’s better to make a SMART goal, (specific, measurable, attainable, reachable, and timely), but it’s challenging for me to find a realistic goal to follow in a year. I like to accomplish little goals, so using my past knowledge, (and a little bit of brain power), I came up with a SMART New Years resolution.

I think I need to get a lot better at telling people, “No.”. I was born a people-pleaser, so I tend to subconsciously do whatever I can to make people feel better. If someone asks for my help on something, my default answer is, “Sure, what can I do?” and I tend to take on more than I can handle. I need to get better at doing things because I want to, not because someone else wants me to. I also should try to not be as shy. I come across as shy around people that I don’t generally talk to. I’m not actually shy at all, I just know when to keep my mouth shut in certain situations...

I’ve learned from past mistakes in many different scenarios. Whether it comes with family problems, or school problems, I’ve gotten into a really bad habit of putting things off. I wait until I’m overwhelmed, frazzled, and stressed before taking action. My New Years’ Resolution is going to be to not procrastinate. I will set aside homework time, and do my homework before I do anything else at school. This year is a year for making change, and I’ll make a big change, little steps at a time.

REFLECTION

I had learned so much in such a short period of time. There were numerous lessons learned. Lessons in school and in life. I go to school, which is one of the reasons I have to work hard and make my family proud. Each subject has its own set of lessons to teach. This second quarter has taught me a lot. Everyday learning is good for our health. I'm certain it does. Due to the abundance of assignments, learning can be exhausting at times, but the effort will be worthwhile. Tags in ICT, mirrors and motors in Science, and many other topics are covered. I'd like to learn more in the future. Thank you also to the teachers who are eager to share their knowledge.
